Fine and Billing Policies

Overdue Fines

  • Edmon Low Creative Studios 2 Hour Course Reserves/Textbooks: $0.50 per minute with a $50 max
  • Edmon Low Creative Studios Technology and Media: $5.00 a day per item
  • Edmon Low Laptop Fines: $20.00 a day with a $60.00 max
  • Interlibrary Services Materials: $5.00 a day per item
  • Architecture Library Course Reserves/Textbooks: $5 per day with a $50 max
  • Classroom Building North Materials: $5.00 a day per item
  • College of Veterinary Medicine Library Course Reserves: $5 per day with a $50.00 max

Non-Returned Item Fees

  • Books: When a book from any campus library branch becomes 60 days overdue the system lists it as "lost" and you will be charged two separate fees per book: a varying refundable replacement fee (if an acceptable exact replacement copy cannot be found you will be charged a $150.00 blanket replacement fee) and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee.
  • Technology: When technology from any campus library branch becomes 3 days overdue, the system lists it as "lost" and you will be charged two separate fees per item: a varying refundable replacement fee (determined by the type of technology you have checked out) and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee.
  • Recalled, Reserve and Special Permission: When any of those items become 30 days overdue, the system lists it as "lost" and you will be billed a varying replacement fee (if an acceptable exact replacement copy cannot be found you will be charged a $150.00 blanket replacement fee) and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee per item.
  • Interlibrary Services (ILS) Material: When ILS materials becomes 30 Days overdue, they are listed as "lost" and you will be charged two separate fees per item: a $250.00 replacement fee and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee.

Please note: All library users are charged for damaged items checked out on their IDs as if they are unreturned. There will be a varying replacement fee as well as a $20.00 processing fee. If a library user returns an item after it has gone Lost, but before it is billed to their Bursar, three or more times per semester, the user is still responsible for the $20.00 Lost Item Processing Fee, even after the item is returned. Lost item replacements fees for Edmon Low Library and Branch Libraries materials returned after 7 years in a lost status are non-refundable.

Courtesy Card holders with lost books will have a block placed on their library account until the lost book is returned. If the lost book is not returned, you will charged a varying replacement fee as well as a $20 lost item processing fee. The block will remain on the account until the book is returned or payment of the replacement fee and lost item processing fee is paid to the OSU Bursar.

Damaged Technology Fees

A damage fee may be charged in lieu of a replacement fee depending on the extent of damage to a tech item. Fees may vary.

Faculty Fines 

Overdue fines are not charged to OSU faculty, except for overdue recalled, reserve, microform & media, special permission and Interlibrary Services materials.

OSU faculty will be charged for lost items. The Billing Supervisor will send you an email, as a courtesy, before you are billed for Lost items. If you do not respond in the given time, you will be charged accordingly with a varying replacement fee and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee.

When a Lost item is returned after billing, you will be credited for the replacement cost of the item. The processing fee is non-refundable.

Overdue Notices

Overdue and lost item notices are a courtesy and are sent to your okstate.edu email address. Failure to receive a notice does not cancel obligations to pay fines or fees.
