Introduction

This guide is designed to help you search the OSU "classic" catalog, the Big Orange Search Service (BOSS), and SUMMON. It also has a special section on audiovisual materials and e-resources.

The library catalog and Big Orange Search Service (BOSS) are freely available online inventories of OSU Stillwater Libraries owned resources. The library catalog is more similar to a card cataloging system, while BOSS is an enhanced search interface.

In both the catalog and BOSS, there are records for each item that OSU owns, but generally there aren't entries for items as specific as journal articles or book chapters. If you search SUMMON by choosing "articles", or SUMMON and BOSS by choosing "books and articles", then you will receive articles in your results.

Both the catalog and BOSS include items owned at the Edmon Low Library (Main Library), William E. Brock Memorial Library (Veterinary Medicine Library), John Rex Cunningham Architecture Library (Architecture Library), Mary L. Williams Curriculum Materials Library (Curriculum Materials Library), and in the remote storage at North Boomer Annex.

Within these locations, items might be part of the circulating collections, reference collections, Map Room, Microform/Media Room (MMR), Government Documents, Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA), etc.

The "classic" catalog is available at http://osucatalog.library.okstate.edu/ and BOSS and SUMMON are available at http://boss.library.okstate.edu.
