INSPIRE, MOTIVATE & INVITE people in the Library with your art! Calling all student creators at Oklahoma State University. The OSU Libraries want to feature your artwork. Through the Student Art Exhibition, the OSU Libraries will award you $600 to create your vision & publicly display it for one year to our million+ visitors.
The Libraries currently host more than 70 pieces of public art. Yours could be next! Your submission could be something you've already created or a new piece of work specifically designed for the Student Art Exhibition.
The Student Art Exhibition was created in 2022 by Nina Thornton and Jacob Jackson, both of whom are artists and employees of the OSU Library.

CRITERIA:
You must be a current student at Oklahoma State University - Stillwater at the time the award is dispersed.
Complete all the required fields within the application.
- Physical art pieces will be displayed inside of the Edmon Low Library building, and the location will be determined by the artist and committee.
- Video or digital art will be displayed on the digital signs throughout the Edmon Low Library in rotation with regular content.
- Your artwork must be able to be displayed for the entire one year term without refreshing it in any way.
Applicants who win the award must deliver their completed artwork to the Library at the start of the display period and retrieve it at the end of the year's display period.
The $600 will be dispersed to the winning students bursar account upon accepting the Student Art Exhibition award.
You are welcome to personally sell your artwork at any time during the display period however, the artwork must remain on display in the Library for the entirety of its year term. Should a piece not be retrieved upon the end of the term, the art piece will be forfeited to the Library after an additional 30-day grace period.
By submitting artwork you are acknowledging that you are the artist and that you hold the copyright to the piece. Copyright and ownership of the piece will remain with you but the OSU Libraries does reserve the right to use it in promotions and other publications.

COMMITTEE:
A committee of 5-6 volunteers will review submissions and collectively select up to 5 pieces to be exhibited in the Edmon Low Library.
PLEASE NOTE:
The Library features a wide variety of lighting including fluorescent lighting, which may impact your artwork. The Library recommends that you consider UV protection for your work before putting it on display in our spaces. The Library and its representatives will make every effort to secure the artwork while on public display. The Oklahoma State University Library will not be held responsible for theft of damage of piece(s) on loan.
Can I submit artwork I've already produced?
Of course! Submissions can be artwork that is already created or a piece you have specifically designed for the Student Art Exhibition.
Can I submit more than one piece of art?
Yes. Please submit individual applications for each art piece you wish to submit (unless your artwork consists of several components/pieces that must go together.)
How is the money dispersed if the artist is a group?

The application asks for a portfolio. What is that?
An artist portfolio can look like many things. Any online space where you display your artwork can be a portfolio. Help the judges get an idea of who you are as an artist by showcasing the work you have already completed.
The application asks for a vision statement. What is that?
This is your opportunity to describe the art piece (size, material, etc.) and share the meaning behind it with the judges.
Are there any restrictions on themes or concepts?
The artwork must comply with federal laws and regulations, Oklahoma law and meet Oklahoma State University policies and guidelines
Due to the changing landscape of AI art and copyright, we will not be accepting AI generated media.
Can my art piece be a music or dance performance?
Absolutely, but your piece must be presented in a recorded format. Performances in either audio or video format will be presented on digital signs within the Library.
How will the awards be distributed?
Awards will be distributed through bursar accounts.
Does the Library get to keep my artwork?
No. You will need to retrieve your art piece at the end of the display period. If the art piece is not retrieved upon the end of the display term, it will be forfeited to the Library after a 30-day grace period.
Can I take my artwork down early?
No. The Library will display your artwork for the entire year term unless dictated by the Library administration. Please see "Can the Library take down my artwork early?"
Can the Library take down my artwork early?
There are many reasons why artwork would have to be moved or removed from its display space including, but not limited to, maintenance, patron safety, or safety of the artwork. The Library retains the option to remove artwork at any time during the year.
Will I be contacted if I didn't win?
Yes. All artists who submitted a complete application will be notified as to the status of their submission once the committee has met.
Can I submit a friend's artwork?
