Cataloging and Classifying Scores

Scores are a special breed of monograph, and require their own special cataloging procedures.

Cataloging and Classifying Scores

A sheet or book of printed music is a score.  Occasionally there may be an essay or critical review at the beginning, but the major part of the item will be the music itself.  Aspects of a score which make its cataloging different from that for books include the uniform title, the physical description, certain notes and identifying numbers, and unusual fixed and variable fields in the MARC record.
