Accessing Research After Graduation: Open Access Resources

Ask the author: Many authors are happy to share their research if you just ask. Look for their email on the publication page, the university page, Twitter, Academia.edu, ResearchGate, or ORCID (https://orcid.org/).

The Google Scholar button can be installed in Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Opera and allows you to search for full text of articles found in Google Scholar. To install the Google Scholar Button in other browsers (or another way to install in Chrome or Firefox), follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to https://scholar.google.com/ 
  • Click on three line menu in the upper left corner of the screen, then click on "Settings" (gear symbol) > Browser Extensions
  • Click the Install button next to Google Scholar Button
  • Depending on your browser, you will be taken to the site for installing browser plugins.
  • Follow the steps to complete the installation of the plugin.

Accessing Open Access Articles

  • Google Scholar: Look for a [HTML] or [PDF] icon on the right side of the search results. You may have to click the versions link:

  • PubMed is a search engine of articles in life sciences and biomedicine. Use the “Text Availability” filter on the left-side to view full text open access articles:

 

  • The Directory of Open Access Journals is an online directory that indexes and provides access to quality open access, peer-reviewed journals. Everything in the DOAJ is openly available to download and read.

 

  • CORE (COnnecting REpositories) provides a comprehensive bibliographic database of the world’s scholarly literature, collecting and indexing research from repositories and journals.
