Interlibrary Services: Placing Requests

How to use Interlibrary Services

In order to place a request through Interlibrary Services, you will need to log into the Interlibrary Loan system.  Logon using your O-Key email address as the user name and your O-Key password for the password.

The first time you access the OSU Interlibrary Services Document Delivery System, you will be asked to supply essential information about yourself, such as your name, address, email address, etc.  Without this information we will NOT be able to send you notices when your requested material arrives, post electronic material to our server for your use, or grant you access to your previous requests.  You will only have to supply this information once.  In the future, once you have logged on, the system will recognize you. You will also be able to edit your information.

Information about the O-Key system and OSU email can be found at:

Please direct questions about this process to the IT Help Desk at 405-744-4357 or 1-877-951-4836 (toll-free outside Stillwater).

The Interlibrary Services page has a number of features.  The Main Menu displays any Outstanding Requests in the middle of the page.  There is also a menu located in the left hand column of the page.  This menu is divided into three main sections: New Request, View, and Tools. The New Request section is used to place a new request into the Interlibrary Loan system. View allows you to view past and current requests as well as electronically delivered articles. Tools allows you change your user information.

Adding a New Request: Books

Interlibrary Services is unable to borrow any textbooks required for class

To place a request for a book click on the "Book" link under "New Request."  This will load the request form. Required information is indicated by a red *.  However, the more information that you provide the more likely it is that we will be able to locate the item you are looking for. Additional information can be provided in the Notes field as well. When you have finished filling out the request form click on the "submit request" button at the bottom of the form.  You will be redirected to the Interlibrary Services Main Menu.

If the item you are requesting is owned by the OSU Edmon Low Library, it will be pulled and placed on hold at the Circulation and Information Desk for you for one week.  You will receive an email informing you that is available for pick-up. Items may be picked up at any of the following OSU-Stillwater branch libraries: the Education and Teaching Library (ETL), the Veterinary Medicine Library, and the Architecture Library. If you would like your items sent to a branch library for pick-up, please place a note in your request.

If the item is not owned by our library, or is checked out, we will submit a request to our extensive network of lending partners.  We will notify you when the item arrives and it will be available at the Circulation and Information Desk. The item will be held at the Circulation and Information Desk until the due date, at that time it will be returned to the lending library.

If some reason we are unable to borrow the requested item, you will receive an email informing you of this fact as well as supplying a reason why we were unable to retrieve it.

Overdue Interlibrary Services materials will be handled similar to over Recall materials.  The fine for Interlibrary Services materials is $5.00 per day, per item with no grace periods. Interlibrary Services privileges may be suspended when books are not returned by the due date.

Adding a New Request: Articles

If the Edmon Low Library subscribes to the journal in print and has the issue you requested, we will scan the article and notify you via email that it is available electronically.  If we subscribe to the journal electronically we will send you a cancelation email with the URL to the online subscription.

If the Edmon Low Library does not own the journal you have requested, we will submit a request to our extensive network of lending partners.  We will notify you via email when the item arrives and it will most likely be available electronically in PDF format.  There are a few lenders that do not allow us to make electronic copies of their articles.  In this case, we will notify you via email that the article is available, in print form, at the Circulation and Information Desk for pick-up.

Articles remain online for 90 days.  Articles can be viewed, saved, or printed and then deleted from the Web server.
