Overview

Interlibrary Services (ILS) is responsible for borrowing items and obtaining copies of articles that are not available at the OSU Edmon Low Library. It is our goal to put this material in your hands as quickly as possible.

Interlibrary Services also provides a Document Delivery Service. This includes pulling items from the shelf and placing them on hold, scanning articles that are owned by our library, and obtaining materials from off-site locations such as the North Boomer Annex, the Library Auxiliary Building, and branch locations of the library. Items may be picked up at any of the OSU-Stillwater branch library locations, including the Main Library, the Education and Teaching Library (ETL), the Veterinary Medicine Library, and the Architecture Library. If you would like your items sent to a branch library for pick-up, please place a note in your request.

Please note that Interlibrary Services is unable to borrow textbooks (any book required for a class). However, many textbooks required for classes are available on Course Reserve, for two hour checkout, at the Circulation and Information Desk.

Delivery Times

Delivery times are approximate and can vary, but you should plan on an average of 24 hours for article requests.  Some article requests may take longer. For particularly urgent situations, Interlibrary Services may be able to obtain some articles more quickly.  Due to increased cost and reliable service, we ask that you limit RUSH requests to those materials that are required for a project with a closely pending deadline.  Please contact the Interlibrary Services personnel before submitting a RUSH request.

Books, theses, and other returnable materials must be delivered to us via courier or the US Postal Service, resulting in a longer delivery time.  The average delivery time for these items is one week, but they can take longer.

If you have any questions regarding the status of your request, please feel free to contact the Interlibrary Services office.

Fines and Fees

Overdue Interlibrary Services materials will be handled similar to overdue recalled materials.  The fine for Interlibrary Services materials is $5.00 per day, per item with no grace periods. Interlibrary Services privileges may be suspended when books are not returned by the due date.

When ILS materials become 30 days overdue, they are listed as lost and you will be charged two separate fees per item; a $250.00 replacement fee and a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee. Once OSU is invoiced for the item from the Lending Library we will refund the difference for the replacement cost, minus the processing fee.  Please be aware that if the lost ILS material is found after we have paid the Lending Library, we cannot issue a refund and the item becomes your property.
