At this time, U.S. policy and guidance regarding copyright and artificial intelligence is an evolving topic. The U.S. Copyright Office is in the process of exploring “copyright law and policy issues raised by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, including the scope of copyright in works generated using AI tools and the use of copyrighted materials in AI training” (U.S. Copyright Office, 2023, para. 1). They plan to issue their report in 2024.
