OSU's Relax and Read Collection: Book Reviews
Gwedy's Button Box by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar
by Unknown User on 2017-09-21T07:17:16-05:00 | 2 CommentsSet in another time, this short read is all Stephen King. Supernatural things going on? Check. Creepy characters who might or might not be good guys? Check. Historical facts that could check out and cause you to question the whole history of mankind? Check. More questions after the last page is read than before the first page? Check.
Gwendy seems to be an ordinary 12 year old girl in 1974, and her story is one that takes the reader back to Castle Rock, Maine (think IT, Dreamcatcher and various other books King has penned) to begin a narrative that is as mysterious as it is frustrating. I am sure there is a rule hanging enshrined in needlepoint above Stephen King's writing desk and typewriter that says something like, "Always leave them wondering, wanting more, and annoyed."
It was a quick read and not one of his better books, although the content does give some food for thought. Read it, and then tell me what you think.

Would you say this book is nightmare inducing? The last Stephen King book I read was over a decade ago, and I slept with the light on for a week.

I wouldn't say nightmare inducing...more of a critical thinking type creepy. It is nowhere near Pet Sematary scary. What was the last book you read by King?
