American Indian Resources: Maps & Atlases

This is an introductory guide to resources for Native American Studies. Some, but not all, of these are available through the Edmon Low Library, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.

Oklahoma maps

McCasland Map Collection  Digitized collection of over 1,000 maps of the Oklahoma region, created between 1803 and 1925.  These maps were a part of Congressional documents, the American State Papers and the Serial Set.  For more information on our map collections, go to the Digital Map Collections web page. 

Historical Atlas of Oklahoma (2006) Goins, Charles Robert & Danney Goble.   (4th edition).  Norman:  University of Oklahoma Press. 
Call number QUARTO 911.766 G615h  2006.  General Reference, 1st Floor, and other locations in the Library.  This atlas includes one-page articles that give background information on the maps.  Maps cover many themes in Oklahoma history from the beginning on.  Arranged chronologically.  Many of the maps have information about the Indian Removal and Indian lands in what eventually became Oklahoma.

National Geographic--cultural map of Native North Americas has many maps covering the Native role in Oklahoma's history, by time periods and themes.
