Geography: GIS Software
Esri Software Access
ArcGIS Pro
There are several ways to access ArcGIS Pro.
- You can visit this page to download and license your own copy of the software.
- You can go to desktop.okstate.edu to utilize a virtualized version of the software. You can also access the virtual machine through one of the computers on the Library's first floor, using the desktop icon called "Virtual Lab".
ArcGIS Desktop
If you need access to the older generation of Esri's GIS software, you can:
- Visit this page, fill out the form, and follow the instructions to download and install the software on your own computer running Windows.
- All desktop computers located on the Library's first floor have ArcGIS Desktop installed.
Open Source GIS Software
QGIS
QGIS is the pre-eminent open source desktop GIS. It has functionality comparable to Esri's software, can be installed on a Mac, and it's free! You can find a long list of tutorials via this page.
OSGeo
QGIS is part of a broader suite of open source geospatial software project under the umbrella of OSGeo. Their website is a great place to explore all of the different tools available for use. Some of my favorites include PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, and GeoServer.
