Interlibrary Services: Distance Education Services

Overview

The Oklahoma State University Library is committed to serving all of our students, including those who are learning remotely.

Distance Education students are those currently enrolled in classes through OSU-Stillwater and who do not attend any classes in person on campus. To qualify for Distance Education shipping services, you must have a permanent, residential address 80 miles or more away. Students on break, studying abroad, or living internationally do not qualify for shipping services.

Articles and Book Chapters

Interlibrary Services can provide copies of articles and book chapters to all currently enrolled students. In most cases, these articles will be delivered electronically. Very rarely, we may only be able to obtain a print copy of an item. The average delivery time for articles and book chapters is 24 hours, but please be aware it may take additional time.

All borrowing and copying of material is done within the provisions of the U.S. Copyright law and its guidelines, the National Interlibrary Loan Code of the American Library Association, and the Oklahoma Interlibrary Loan Code.

Interlibrary Services is limited to copying one article per issue or one chapter per book, not to exceed 10% of the total material. For more information about Copyright Fair Use and Exceptions, please visit:

There is no limit to the number of requests you can place for articles or book chapters, within the limits of Copyright law.

Due to the high demand of these titles, Interlibrary Services is unable to provide scans from materials on Course Reserve.

Shipping

Interlibrary Services can ship items to a Distance Education student’s home address, including books, media, scores, etc. Material may be owned by the OSU Library or may be borrowed from another library. Items borrowed from another library will take longer to arrive.

Students may have items shipped to their home address if they reside 80 or more miles away, do not take in-person classes on the OSU-Stillwater campus, and have a permanent residential address. Students on break or studying abroad do not qualify for shipping services.

To place a request for an item to be shipped to your home, please use the Edmon Low Library’s Interlibrary Loan book request form.  In the notes field please indicate that you are a Distance Education student, and you need the item shipped to you.

Please note that Interlibrary Services is unable to borrow textbooks (any book required for a class). Additionally, Interlibrary Services is unable to borrow e-books. If you would like to suggest a book for purchase, please fill out the following form:

The number of items that you may have shipped to you is limited by the number of items you are allowed to have checked out. The checkout limit for undergraduate, graduate and Honors College students is 100 items.

Shipments will be limited to once per week per person.

Items are shipped using a trackable, expedited shipping service. We will include a return shipping label with your material as well. Please be aware that all mail is received by University Mailing Services before being forwarded on to the library. Please allow a couple of days to account for this delay in shipping when you return your item.  Students are responsible for having their material returned by the due date to avoid any late fees. For information on fines and fees please see:

Items borrowed from another library cannot be renewed online. The library that provided the material must approve the renewal, which can take additional time. For information on how to renew items borrowed from another library please see:

Other Campus Locations

Interlibrary Services is unable to ship items to other OSU campus locations for pick-up. Some students may have access to both OSU-Stillwater and another campus location and may be able to use Interlibrary Services for that campus. Please contact the campus library for eligibility questions:
