Getting Started

Welcome!  The purpose of this guide is to help navigate the world of evidence synthesis.  This guide will take you through an overview of the evidence synthesis process, differentiate between review methodologies, the importance of research question design, relevant databases and search strategies and how we at the library can help you accomplish your goals.

What is Evidence Synthesis

"Evidence synthesis" refers to the process of bringing together information from a range of sources and disciplines.  Evidence synthesis represents a wide variety of review methodologies, which include the following:

  • Systematic Reviews
  • Scoping Reviews
  • Rapid Reviews
  • Umbrella Reviews
  • Meta-Analyses
  • Literature Reviews

Underlying each of these methodologies are four tenants; inclusiveness, transparency, rigor and accessibility. Each review methodology can contribute to a reliable and trustworthy study.   Our goal is to help you identify the review methodology that is best fitted to your study.
