Edmon Low Creative Studios: Heritage Arts Studio
The Heritage Arts Studio is available and free to use for any OSU student or faculty member.
We welcome and encourage all majors, departments, or anyone wanting to add these skills to their repertoire to come and use our resources!
Overview:
This studio provides access to in-house Sewing, Serger, Cover Stitch, and Embroidery Machines as well as a Vinyl Cutter, Rigid Heddle Loom, Spinning Wheel, Hand Carders, an adjustable Dress Form, Iron and Board. All machines are available for use by OSU students and faculty for academic or personal creative endeavors with a studio reservation. Prior to use, the Embroidery Machine and Vinyl Cutter require training and certification. Training and tutorials are available by appointment only, no walk-ins.
Fabrication Machines
Sewing Machine - Husqvarna Viking H Class E20:
A reliable Swiss-made mechanical sewing machine for all your sewing and alteration needs. This machine has 32 stitch settings, including utility, decorative and stretch stitches, a one step buttonhole, and simple threading. Fabric not provided, all purpose cotton thread available in-studio. Tutorials available.
Serger/Overlock Machine - Husqvarna Viking Amber S100:
No sewing project is complete without serged edges. This machine has 4, 3, and 2 thread capability with 16 different stitches to help you complete any project. Both the left and right front covers open to provide complete access to the threading area. The differential feed gives you perfectly even seams - no stretching or distortion on knits or puckering of finer fabrics, and it can also be used for gathering. Fabric not provided, cotton thread available in-studio. Tutorials available.
Cover Stitch Machine - Husqvarna Huskylock S21:
Make the perfect hem -including that elusive t-shirt cover stitch- using this powerful converted overlock machine. Color coded thread guides make threading simple and understandable. A large extension table makes hemming a cinch. This machine can do chainstitch, 2 narrow, 2 wide, or 3 thread cover stiches, and has 4 thread capabilities for seaming and overcasting. Embroidery Machine - Husqvarna Topaz 40:
Make your project truly unique using this simple and fast automatic embroidery machine. The machine comes equipped with 2 sizes of embroidery hoops: 240x150 for larger projects, and a smaller 120x120 for sleeves, logos, or shirt fronts. The touchscreen color interface comes pre-programmed with 100+ designs to choose from and 3 sizes of lettering, so you can personalize your designs directly on screen with rotating, scaling, mirroring and zoom. First time user training required, scheduling by appointment only.
Vinyl Cutter Machine - Silhouette Cameo 4:
This device allows you to design adhesive vinyl stickers, decals, and custom logos easily and quickly. Using the free software you can upload your logo or text and create your own projects with amazing detail and accuracy. Full spectrum of colors of high gloss permanent vinyl adhesive provided. First time user training required, scheduling by appointment only.
Fiber Arts Apparatuses
Ashford Rigid Heddle 32" Loom:
A great loom for users of all experience levels, the Ashford rigid heddle loom is easy to use, and fast to warp! Comes equipped with two different sett heddle reeds: a 7.5 dpi reed for standard aran weight yarn weaving (239 threads), and 15 dpi reed for thinner, lace-weight yarn (479 threads). Tutorials available.
Ashford Kiwi 3 Spinning Wheel:
This modern wheel is great for new and experienced spinners alike. It has folding treadles, timber veneered wheel, a three speed whorl, and a wooden threading hook and brake adjustment knobs. Ball bearings ensures smooth and silent spinning. Double treadles are mounted on polyurethane hinges for effortless treadling and the 3 speed whorl has ratios of 5.5, 7.5 and 9.5:1. It comes with 3 large 130g capacity bobbins and a built-in Lazy Kate for plying. Tutorials available.
Ashford Classic Hand Carders:
Hand carders are used in pairs to prepare raw (washed) wool, fleece, or cotton fibers for spinning or to blend fibers to create personalized color or fiber blends. These curved backhand carders are lightweight and easy to hold. They produce small rolags or mini batts for woolen style spinning. Tutorials available.

Singer Adjustable Dress Form
Whether you're designing a new garment or making alterations, this dress form has an adjustable body shape that expands and contracts to meet your measurement needs. Easily adjust the neck, bust, waist, hips, and height, providing a perfect fit. Supports sizes 4-10.
Iron and Board:
Many sewing projects simply cannot be done without a decent iron! Ideal for garment work including pressing, hemming, steaming, and applying fusible interfacing.
