A&M Consortium: FOLIO Cataloging Guidance: Note on Duplicate Barcodes

Since we are a multi-institution consortium, it is possible to have duplicate barcodes.  We do not recommend you using a barcode if another institution has already used it.  There is a method of circumnavigating duplicate barcodes but please purchase unique barcodes. Below is a chart with each institutions' current barcode numbers.

Currently know overlapping barcodes have the following characteristics:

• 5-digit barcodes
• 6-digit barcodes beginning with B
• A few 7-digit barcodes
• 8-digit barcodes between 000335XX-00051930

In the future, use barcodes with more than 8-digits, starting with a unique number.  Contact the FOLIO Implementation Team with any questions.
